British Beef and Mushroom Pie
A hearty and flavorful beef and mushroom pie, perfect for a family dinner, with a flaky pastry crust and a rich filling.
Ingredients
- 500g ground beef
- 200g mushrooms, diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Method
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic, cooking until softened.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
- Stir in the diced mushrooms and cook for an additional 5 min until they soften.
- Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Pour in the beef broth and let the mixture simmer for about 10 min until slightly thickened.
- Transfer the beef mixture into a baking dish.
- Cover the filling with the sheet of puff pastry, sealing the edges. Cut slits in the pastry to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the pastry with the beaten egg.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 min or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can add peas or other vegetables if desired, just ensure they're suitable for the family.
